Static pages

A static web page has unchanging content. The content displayed is the same each time the page is viewed. Data cannot be input into a static webpage, such as through a contact form or to make purchases. The page you are currently viewing is a static web page.

Dynamic pages

A dynamic web page contains content that is generated each time the page is viewed. The content is usually drawn from a database. For example, a searchable catalogue of products is a dynamic web page. When a visitor enters a search term the products are selected from a database and then displayed. A web page that retrieves information from a visitor, such as contact details, is also dynamic. Geekaboo's contact page is a dynamic web page.

Some web pages display in exactly the same way each time they are viewed and do not retrieve visitor information, but are still dynamic. A content management system that enables a website owner to update their own content is linked to dynamic web pages. The website owner uses a hidden set of web pages to decide what information to display on their website. They may also use the hidden dynamic pages to add their own photographs and text.

A contact form allows visitors to send an email through a web page interface. Geekaboo's contact forms are designed to prevent spammers from obtaining website owners email addresses and sending unsolicited messages.
